We take ownership of our impact, from product quality to sustainability.
Over 230 years of craftsmanship, innovation, and purpose—from our roots in 1794 to the advanced cable solutions that power the world’s harshest environments today.
Cables only tell part of the story. What you don’t see are the people who stay late to solve the last problem of the day, the crews who watch every test result, and the community that has backed Rochester Cable for generations. Their skill and dedication transform copper, fiber, and steel into cables that are trusted to perform in harsh conditions, whether at sea, offshore, or on land.
Rochester Cable began as a manufacturer of hemp ropes in Rochester, New York, serving maritime and industrial needs. As one of the oldest U.S. manufacturers, we’ve spent more than two centuries refining that manufacturing mindset. Over time, that same craftsmanship evolved into the engineering of advanced cable solutions — a tradition of performance that continues today.
During the World War II era, Rochester Cable relocated its operations to Culpeper, Virginia, establishing a facility with an academic-style design that later became known locally as the University Building. The site allowed production to continue during a pivotal time in history and remains a cornerstone of our operations today.
As communications and defense technology advanced, Rochester Cable began pairing electrical conductors with optical fibers, pioneering hybrid designs that set the stage for modern data and power transmission.
During this period, our cables were deployed in several milestone oceanographic missions, including deep-ocean expeditions to explore the site of the Titanic. These electro-optical designs demonstrated our ability to deliver power and data at extreme depths and helped define Rochester’s reputation for performance in the most challenging underwater environments.
Today, Rochester Cable contributes to Hexatronic’s global network of connectivity experts. We share resources and technology across four continents while maintaining our manufacturing and testing operations in Culpeper, Virginia.
We remain guided by the same principle that began in 1794: build solutions that perform where failure is not an option. As new industries emerge, our commitment to innovation and reliability continues to define who we are.
Every cable we build reflects the expertise, precision, and pride of our skilled team. Generations of engineers, technicians, and support staff have devoted their careers to Rochester Cable, with some dedicating over 50 years to the company. Their knowledge and craftsmanship ensure that every product leaving our Culpeper facility meets the same high standards that have defined us for more than two centuries.
