Behind The Shift: Why Mental Health Belongs in Manufacturing

Blog title: Behind The Shift: Why Mental Health Belongs in Manufacturing

The work we do at Rochester Cable is demanding. It takes focus, accuracy, and endurance—qualities our team brings to the job every single day. But behind every cable we design, test, and deliver is a person carrying more than just the task in front of them. Too often in manufacturing, that part goes unspoken.

Mental health isn’t a topic that typically comes up in manufacturing. It’s easy to keep moving, stay quiet, and push through. But we believe that taking care of our people means more than making sure they get the job done. It means recognizing that health and well-being—mental, physical, and emotional—impact everything, including how we show up on the floor, how we collaborate, and how we perform over time.

We also recognize that it takes courage to have these conversations. There’s still a stigma around speaking openly about stress, burnout, or emotional fatigue, especially in industries like ours where toughness and resilience are expected. That’s why it’s important to lead by example and create a culture where those conversations can happen.

In this video, members of our Human Resources team share why mental health deserves a seat at the table and how we’re working to make space for those conversations. It’s part of a broader initiative to create a stronger, healthier workplace, as we understand that the quality of our output is directly linked to the well-being of our employees.

We’re proud of the work we do, but we’re even more proud of the people who do it. When they’re supported, respected, and able to bring their whole selves to work, everyone benefits—from our team to our customers.

The People Behind the Work

We take pride in our work and the people who make it possible. How we treat our teams shapes not only our culture but also our output, partnerships, and the trust we bring to every connection.
